Polynesian Music
Polynesian music is any music that comes from the various islands of the Pacific Ocean. There are as many different musical styles as there are tiny islands in the largest ocean in the world. Many people enjoy island music for the laid back vibe, while others enjoy the sense of tradition or the upbeat rhythms. Many artists who perform Polynesian music act somewhat like island historians. In the great tradition of passing stories from generation to generation, Polynesian songs are steeped in the culture of the people and the stories of this region. Dating back many hundreds of years past, Polynesian music traces the crossing of the Pacific Ocean, and the development of civilizations large and small. Modern Polynesian music is sometimes referred to as "nesian." Some of today's most popular Polynesian musicians are featured on recordings from Neos Productions. If you're looking for something truly eclectic, check out Bruddah Norm's album "Stay With Me," which features reggae, R&B and island contemporary originals in Norm's nesian style. One of the most versatile Polynesian artists working in Hawaii today is Kawika Regidor. This multi-talented young man began his career as a Polynesian drummer which led to Polynesian dancing, guitar playing, singing and song writing. This native son writes island contemporary and traditional Hawaiian songs about growing up on Maui, such as "Maui My Home" and "The Islands." His albums "The First Time" and "Paradise" overflow with sweet local flavor.
