Multicultural Music
Multicultural music is becoming more popular as the Internet and other forms of communication bring people closer together. The term "multicultural music" is used to describe any music that is infused with several different types of cultural and ethnic influences and sounds. No music scene encompasses a multicultural sound quite like the one created by Hawaiian musicians. Music from Hawaii features everything from traditional Hawaiian language and chanting to contemporary island, folk, reggae, jawaiian, R&B, pop, rock, rap, and alternative. For a taste of traditional Hawaiian culture, check out kumu hula Palani Agosto's album "Chants of the Islands." A must for lovers of chant and students of hula, this CD combines well known traditional chants taught by all Halau Hula with original chants by Palani Kahala. If you want to listen to uniquely Hawaiian reggae music, pick up a copy of "Reggae Soul" from Hawaiian Music Award-winning solo artist Butch Helemano. Butch's style features the social message you've come to expect from reggae artists, with positive vibes, Polynesian influences, and upbeat rhythms. Songs like "You're the One," and "Roots and Culture" are sure to make you a Butch Helemano fan for life. If multicultural music is eclectic, then Carole and Florent Atem fit the bill. These native Tahitian siblings have combined rock, jazz, and new age into their own modern rock sound. Music critics have praised their world rock album "Southern Cross," and you're sure to enjoy it as well. Florent Atem's most recent release, "Dreamtown," featuring world famous musicians Matt Bissonnette on bass and Jeff Capitelli on drums, reaches new heights in terms of his skill as a world class guitarist, vocalist and song writer.
