Hawaiian Music Groups

When most of us think of Hawaiian musicians, we picture solo artists or house bands in matching Hawaiian print shirts strumming ukuleles at luaus. The Hawaiian music scene hosts a plethora of talented musicians and vocalists in many different genres, including boy bands and all girl groups, creating everything from traditional Hawaiian and island contemporary to R&B, rock and reggae.

Reality, two friends who grew up together in Ewa Beach, Marja Apisaloma and Shivon Ines, took home a Hawaiian Music Award on their very first release. "Moving On," which included their first big radio hit, "Like The Rain," set the stage for a series of hits which established the lovely ladies of Reality as a household name in the islands.

Ka'ala Boys, one of Hawaii's busiest live performance bands, can be heard at various island hot spots, from the North Shore to Waikiki, nearly every day of the week. Their music, a tropical blend of contemporary, reggae and pop, always a crowd pleaser, elicits steady cries of "hana hou" (one more time!) at each and every show!

Heart and Soul, with the fabulously talented ukulele virtuoso, James Locquiao, and the high energy of the Sevellino twins, Gary and Garrett, took the islands by storm with their debut release, "A Lot of Love," featuring their original hit, "The Greatest Gift." Another group who's on the rise is the island rhythms band, K2, Hawaiian boys who are gathering crowds on the West Coast with their original songs about island life. Their CD, "Feels Like Home," with twelve originals, showcases the band's sweet harmonies on beautiful ballads like "Wish." They kick it up a notch with party songs like "Feels Like Home" and spread aloha with songs filled with island style lyrics such as "Pass Da Poi."
