High energy Guidance Band, known for heavy dance grooves and powerful vocals, reaches a higher echelon with the release of their second album, “Good Life.” The band’s driving creative force, Keith Batlin, on guitar and vocals, and Ryan Brandvold, on bass and vocals, began their music journey together in high school and then both attended Musicians Institute in California. After spending the next several years honing their musical chops while performing with a variety of international bands they came back to Oahu, founded Guidance Band and in 2013, released “The Trinity,” featuring Reggae legends Pato Bantan, Winston Jarrett and Half Pint. With an absolute passion for Reggae, Keith and Ryan wrote “Good Life’s” 13 original songs in a range of styles from Roots and Dancehall to Island and Rock Reggae. Accompanied by Brian Kusko on drums, percussion and keys, Brandon Hutson on trombone and trumpet, Kona Hew Len on keys and Mindy McPeek on vocals, “Good Life” also features Grammy award winner Mykal Rose of the legendary group, Black Uhuru, the dancehall queen known world-wide for the classic Reggae anthem, “Bam Bam,” Sister Nancy, and Hawai’i’s own heartfelt vocalist Mindy Smokestack. Album cover art by internationally acclaimed artist, “Mystic Lion,” and photography by Hawai’i’s Kim Taylor Reese complete this collection of great Reggae grooves by this formidable band.
